On June 1, 2007, the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance released its report, Turn the Page. The report presents a fair and balanced overview of the current issues surrounding textbook affordability.


The UTA remains committed to the value of used textbooks in providing a marketplace solution to rising textbook costs. Buying used can save students up to 75% of the cost of textbooks.


In December 2006, Barry Major, Used Textbook Association president, was selected to testify at the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Association hearing held in Chicago. The Advisory Committee was formed in June 2006 by Congress to conduct a one-year study on the cost of textbooks.

Also in 2006, Used Textbook Association members served on a committee with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education to propose legislation that would provide a task force to study textbook costs in postsecondary institutions
